Accordion book

I have been told I give the impression of being organised.

my coat

I don’t know how true this really is. There are times when my surroundings look like a bomb exploded around me (for instance, around course deadlines).

I usually come out of these spells with a keen interest in putting order on things that matter. (más…)

Sugar spit biting

Sugar spit biting is the name of the technique I used for these prints.

I started by choosing an image from my sketchbook. This one shows a few ornaments on a shelf.

I traced the main outlines onto a metal plate. I painted with a solution of sugar on the plate before placing it in acid. (más…)

Aquatint

The aquatint process consists of painting on a metal plate with a diluted solution of nitric acid, using a transfer of a drawing as guidance.

The acid ‘bites’ the plate making the surface rough. Longer exposures or stronger concentrations will produce more biting and a rougher surface (if left too long the acid will bite too much and make the surface smooth again)

This is the drawing I used. I transferred the main outline onto a metal plate

I used varnish to protect the lighter areas on the background before painting the main details with acid. (más…)

Etchings

Hi again;

Today I’m going to share one of my etchings. I learned this technique in printmaking, one of my chosen subjects in my course.

For this project I picked an image from my sketchbook: a table setting.

This is the original drawing, I adapted it to the shape of the etching plate.

I traced some of the drawing onto a metal plate covered with ground (a thin coat of a substance that protects the metal from acid).

I then drew on the plate and submerged the plate in an acid solution. (más…)

Drawings of home

Hello again;

This time it’s all drawings around the house. These are quick drawings, experimenting with media, without caring too much for the final result. (más…)

Recapping

3D1566

I couldn’t believe the sudden urge to knot myself into a ball, close my eyes and wait for summer to be over.

Well, it wasn’t quite so dramatic. It lasted for a few moments over the last week. I don’t feel that strongly any more. (más…)

Drawing

I haven’t updated this blog for a short while and I have noticed I feel silly when sharing updates of my recent work (remember my art course?) on social media.

Social media for me often feels so … impersonal? Ephemeral?

Maybe I just don’t feel my posts ‘fit in’ among so many others from so many other people. (más…)
